Re: [APML] Rosette comparison (was New Rosette Mosaic)

Title: Re: [APML] New Rosette Mosaic
I think we're missing something here.  Star size is a result of more than just the detector, film or ccd.  It's also dependant upon factors such as seeing, focal length and collimation of the instrument and transparency.  Now if you are going to measure this by the smallest size stars recorded, you can look at the detector, 24 micron pixels would give square stars at the minimum 24 microns, while film has a chance of recording 10 micron stars if conditions allow.  Yes I know there are chips with smaller pixels.  For this comparison, my point is that Bobby's shot may indeed have higher "real" resolution based on his conditions.

Just my personal view of the whole comparison.

A comment was made regarding the small size
of the stars in Bobby's film image relative to the CCD image. This is an issue of
image scale and the linearity of CCD and nothing to do with resolution and sharpness.
