Thanks to everyone who responded. The file size is
only about 25 MB
but with interpolation a very large print can be
made, maybe 30 x 30".
I realize that Bobby's file size is much larger but
I would bet the resolution
(that's real resolution as in stellar size and raw
resolved detail, not just # pixels)
of the CCD image is substantially superior to the
film image. This "real" resolution
is the key factor in how much enlargement an image
can tolerate.This is easy
to demonstrate if Bobby would post an image cropped
like the one below
of NGC 2244 at about 1000 x 1000 res. and a
comparison can be made.
Also FYI the CCD image was done with a relatively
low resolution CCD camera
having 24um pixels (IMG1024). A comment was made
regarding the small size
of the stars in Bobby's film image relative to the
CCD image. This is an issue of
image scale and the linearity of CCD and nothing to
do with resolution and sharpness.
