I have the Scan Elite II. The software is the same for each (at least the upgrade is). I have found no way to keep high contrast scans (e.i. astrophotos) from clipping. Although the full range it retained internally the only way I can get it out is to save a "linear" file. I get very good results with Vuescan however.

   Are you using the Dimage Scan Multi Pro scanner? Do they have the same software for all their scanners?

 

    I was thinking of getting the above ... from their data sheets they make it seem like you have complete control over all the scanning functions... or are we looking at another Nikon software scenario?
