[APML] 16-bit Slide Scanning Question

I'm trying out a Minolta DIMAGE Scan Dual III
and came across something I hadn't expected: 
a choice between two types of 16-bit scans, 
Linear and not (the latter presumably gamma 
corrected). This is in addition to 8-bit 
scanning, of course. Which type of
16-bit scan should I choose for astrophotos?
