In Central Arizona September was the best month (Yes, we consider Sept. still 
"summer" here as long as its over 100 in the daytime) in my log book from 
last year almost every weekend night was clear enough for astrophotography 
(depending on your critereon for clear enough) If you're lucky enough to be 
retired and can image any day you'd like then I think September would be even 
better.
