Tom,
M31 is tipped 12 degrees from edge on. I suppose the image
would need to be rendered 3D and then rotated. Not sure how
to do that <G>.

Does anyone know the angle that M31 is tipped away from being squarely 'face on' to us?  Based on that info, and this detailed image...it would be interesting to see what it would look like 'stretched' to appear as if it were face on.

PS.  Other galaxies could be given the same treatment with digital image manipulation...NGC2903, NGC253, etc.....
