[APML] Rosette Completely Redone
I would like to thank Mike, Philip, Warren, Robert and the others who
commented on my Rosette image, which was the first new photons I have
collected in awhile. While some liked the version, and others did not,
all provided constructive inputs that were much appreciated and led to
two very important conclusions...
1. I decided I did not like the result.
2. I had deviated too much and too early from the "Levels" approach to
the important early processing and stacking steps. This was not my usual
processing approach, I got anxious to get into Curving since it had been
working so well on all of the other images I have redone. What I had
forgotten is that I adhered closely to Judicious Leveling in early
stacking steps in all of those other images.
Here is the Completely Reprocessed Image:

I have completely Reprocessed the images starting with the Raw Scans, I
have now used (7) 50 min. Exposures, and all had baseline leveling done
prior to and during the stacking process. I used only very careful and
minor Curving on the final image and only one iteration (almost
unnecessary) of the Mike Cook (I hope I got it right<gr>) DNR routine,
(Smart Blur settings were .7 and 10).
The comments on the lack of punch on the long expired PPF is even more
evident on this version, but the overall smoothness and more natural
look of this image, while maintaining detail and star color balance, is
what I was looking for. Also, the "Hue Chroma" effect brighter details
was avoided by going back to square one.
Thanks all
and, of course, comments are appreciated.
