It is extremely critical.  To complicate things further is that unless this
was a high end product it is unlikely that the focal center of the mirror
is the exact same point as the geometric center....although it is good enough
for rough collimation.

I have yet to see a laser product that will give you _perfect_ collimation.
It may suffice for low-moderate power visual or CCD work, but 35mm will
show the errors.
