I have a new M-42 posted
that I took with the 14.5" Cassegrain and hypered RG200. I noticed that I need
to add half an hour of hypering to get the same "fix" that I get in the heat
of the summer... so my winter hyper time is 1.5 hours instead of one hour due
no doubt to the garage being an ice box compared to the
summertime.
This M-42 is a stack of four
negatives ranging in time from 10 seconds to 30 minutes. The pronounced yellow
color around the Trapezium is that way on the film (it looks blue on the
film)... also this image called for significant decision making to decide just
how to scale the densities and make it look "natural." As Roland pointed out,
the density ranges here are like 1 to 1000 and yet, the image has to have
everything showing and evenly illuminated.
The colors are basically
the way they showed up on the film... in the five minute exposure I don't
think there was very much reciprocity failure so I felt that I could trust
those colors.
The complexity of this nebula is mind
boggling.
