Re: [APML] Mission Statement Change? The Blacksmith and the Motorcar!!
I agree, I think a subtle change is in order.
I've been an photographer for over thirty years (ouch!) and an
astrophotographer just as long. I love the qualities and nuances of film. I
love the smell of film and even the smell of fixer. Today I feel I am being
pushed on all fronts into digital imaging.
Professionally, clients are wanting digital images because its faster and
they think they can save money and separation costs. Film manufacturers are
feeling the pinch and offering fewer choices and trying to survive in an
increasingly digital world. I'm having to explore and invest in the digital
environment to survive.
In my avocation, astrophotography, the very same thing is happening and I
feel I must explore this new technology as well.
We must all remember the blacksmith. The blacksmith was a skilled craftsman
who had flourished for thousands of years. At the end of the 19th. century
and the beginning of the 20th. century, along came the motorcar. Those
blacksmiths that learned the 'new technology' flourished, those that
didn't......well, today blacksmithing is an interesting, if quaint, craft
found in rural areas and county fairs.
