Well, it has been my observation that some of the posts you refer to have
in the past attempted to illustrate an opinion on the part of the poster
that CCD is better than film. Also, I don't think threads titled "the
death of film?" help to promote emulsion based astrophotography.

Not necessarily, one can simply say that I learned a CCD technique that may
be applicable to film. Here it is... I don't need to post comparison
images or CCD images to illustrate the technique.

The problem with this argument is that the purpose of this list is not to
create a forum for the comparison of CCD vs. film so that we can judge the
merits of each. [At least I don't think it is ;>)] I thought the purpose
of this list was to promote film astrophotography and I would like to
continue to see the list go in this direction.

I don't care for the CCD vs. film discussions because they never seem to
get anywhere. Some like film for specific reasons. Some like CCD for
specific reasons. The same old stuff seems to be re-hashed again and
again. I would like to learn more about what others who are working with
film, such as yourself, are doing. I can drop in on the CCD groups to
learn what is going on with CCD. I don't think that blending the two will
help to promote discussions or techniques applicable to film.

I respect your opinion Chuck, I am just concerned that this valuable forum
for discussion of film methods will be lost of we blend it into a hybrid
CCD/film group.
