Re: [APML] Darkroom services

I can attest to the high quality of printing by Tony's lab.
Tony has made many prints for me up to 40 x 30". The prints
are on high quality kodak glossy paper. The color, saturation and
smoothness are superb. You can even make use of Tony's
superb processing skills and experience if you desire his processing
input on your images.

Another issue I'd like to comment on is the printability of CCD images.
This may be of interest to those considering delving into CCD but
concerned about the printability of CCD image compared to film.
CCD files are naturally smaller than routine scanned film files.
However due to the smoothness of high quality well exposed CCD images
large high quality prints are possible. My ST10 images generate files
that are about 8MB. Film folks would consider this a small file but many
of my ST10 images have been printed at 16 x 24" and are very smooth
and sharp. Some of my images taken with my IMG1024 camera generate
even smaller files (3MB) but have been printed by Tony at 20 x 20" and
have held up remarkably. Of course, CCD mosaics approach typical scanned
film file sizes. Tony has printed my M31 mosaic (39MB file) at 40 x 30".
I was very happy with the result.

Roland,

We specialize in printing images from CCD... the typical CCD image enlarges very well if there is little noise. Your M42 shot would do well... easily going to the 30 X 40 size... maybe even 40 X 50. And with Grain Surgery significant amounts of noise can be deleted from the image (if there is noise).
