If you want 
    higher angular resolution
then
    get more focal length
       and/or
    get a higher resolution detector
until
    seeing dominates
       and/or
    exposures become too long to get good SNR

If you want
    more information content
then
    use a larger format detector
       and/or
    use a higher resolution detector
       and/or
    make a mossaic
until
    you gag on the data
       and/or 
    you grow old taking the exposures


If you want
    better SNR
then
    take longer exposures
       and/or
    take larger format exposures and downsize
       and/or
    use a more efficient detector
       and/or
    get more aperture
       and/or
    find darker skies
until
    you run out of time, patience and money
