Re: [APML] Guidescope thoughts...

Chris,

Orion sells a Vixen 80mm refractor. The catch is that
it goes with an alt-az mount. The price is $690.00.
I'm not sure if they sell OTA's only. They also have
an Orion version on alt-az mount for 300.00. I'm
currently using a DSBS mount plate with a Takhashi
FS-102 and FS-78. I trade back and forth shooting and
guiding through both.
It is heavy and you need to get your dec balance good
but it works well and reduces the CG and gives maybe
less wind profile and good clearance between the
scopes for cameras, guider, etc. Actually ,I'm
considering putting a guidescope on top of the 102 or
78 and shooting through both scopes simultaneously.
It's tough to get all the images you need for stacking
on those short summer nights. This way you get two for
the time of one.
