[APML] Another nail in the coffin
Another nail in the coffin of film astrophotography was announced today.
Scientists at the European Space Agency have developed a new CCD camera,
called the S-Cam made of superconducting materials that are so sensitive it
can detect a single photon, as well as measure it's position on the chip,
it's color, and time of detection.
The story is at the ESA web site at:
http://sci.esa.int/content/news/index.cfm?aid=1&cid=1&oid=29220
More technical details at:

Of course, it's only a 6x6 pixel array right now with a total of 36 pixels,
BUT, I'm sure one day, real soon, as our CCD shooting friends have assured
us, there will be a 2K x 3K chip that retails to consumers for a couple of
hundred bucks.
