    I'm having a hard time picking up a pattern with the 'non-round' stars. How
were these images stacked? Was it manual registration or Registar? It might be
easier to get a handle on what is going on with a single negative. I have to
agree with Dave that using 3 lock screws can be a source of trouble. This simple
realization would have saved probably half of my cold camera shots. Some of them
looked like the focal plane was tilted, or would just show as severe coma on
part of the image. 3 lock screws are better than one, but two definitely seem to
give a more stable/flat connection for OAG's, guide scopes, etc. Maybe give it
a try using only 2 of the lock screws on the top of your focuser. Good luck! :-)
