Great image! I'm glad this technique worked out for you. I do still notice
some green hue around the Veil. You should be able to create a smoother
blend with little difficulty. Maybe you could adjust the color of the fill
layer for a better match and then make an overall adjustment of your
background with Curves. You could also modify the boundaries of the layer
mask. Try a Gaussian Blur (as Tony Hallas suggested in an earlier post).
In any case, I like what you've got for your first attempt.
Tony (et al.), I was just thinking about why the Lasso tool would not be as
viable an option to Color Range for creating the layer mask. Using Color
Range allows you to make a more accurate mask, one that would not affect
nebulosity or stars within the vignetted region of the image (especially HII
nebulosity). The Lasso equally selects everything within its range.
