Re: [APML] Type M Nikon Screen

Nope, don't use it. Unless you do what I did with mine. You
see, the M screen is clear and doesn't have any coarseness for the image
to project upon. This will allow your eyes to "adjust" focus if
it is not precise and you will think you are focused when you aren't.
I put a small square of lightly frosted scotch
tape in the middle of mine. Make sure it's on the bottom of the screen.
Then use a 3-4th mag star and make sure it is
on the tape. Then you can get good focus, and still have most of the rest
of the bright screen to compose the target with.

Subject: [APML] Type M Nikon Screen

> Found and bought a great condition Nikon F body for $149 which seemed like
a good deal (w/o vf). Have determined it came with a type M screen which is
described as a fine ground fresnel screen. It looks quite clear and I'm
sure will give bright images and the folks in the store who said they knew a
bit about astrophotography said it should be excellent for that pupose.
I'll give it a try (I've ordered the Peaks 8X loupe and will use your
general advice on focusing as well). Have any of you used or know of this
screen and found it suitable or not? Appreciate any feedback.
