Hi Bert
I usually make a large cone-shaped blob of the stuff and stick it firmly to
the surface where I estimate that the drill bit might emerge <g> It's also
a good idea to stick a similar blob around the entry point of the drill.
In this case I make the first cut with the drill and then, with the drill
in place, stick the blue-tack around the drill and the surface being
drilled. You may find you have to keep re-sticking the stuff since it
tends to entwine itself around the drill. If you're reasonably careful
you'll find that all the drill chippings become firmly embedded in the
blue-tack. Of course, if you can remove anything before drilling, that's
always the safest strategy. This was true of the tripod socket on the F2,
though I still had to use plenty of blue-tack when drilling through from
the base into the film transport section. If you feel a cold sweat coming
on while doing this don't worry, it's normal ;-)
