Re: [APML] Where to gas a Nikon?

Robert, I'm introducing from the back. My design is probably not
a world-class design but it works......if introducing from the back is
the place to do it. Many introduce with a port in the OAG but that won't
work for camera lenses or guidescopes.

I drilled a hole right behind the film pressure plate and used JB-weld to
glue
a little 1/2" long brass tube with a flare on one end that I got from
an auto parts store. The plate comes out as you probably know so this is no
problem to do. From memory the tube is about 1/8" in diameter.
The flare keeps it from pulling through the hole. My gas line slips on the
outside end of this and I secure it with a little clamp. I would suggest a
black
hose (paint it if it's not) to help on the light leaks. Hopefully being
behind the plate will
also guard against these.

This works good for the old F because it pre-dates the hinged backs. If
you don't need the purge just substitute another back and you are set to go
without those connections being in the way. You need the little tube to have
a very
low profile; the pressure plate goes almost all the way back against the
camera back
when it's shut and film in place.

Go to Philip Perkin's website astrocruise.com and he has a detailed article
on how
he rigged his F2.
