[APML] Photosmart S20 scanner
I am very pleased with my Photosmart S20 scanner ~except~
for the documentation. I can find nothing useful in the supplied
documentation, help files or H-P website to help me.
I'm calling the supplied photosmart twain driver from
Photoshop 5, 16bit/channel space. I presume I'm getting a
full 12 bits into Photoshop, but suspect the twain driver
may be passing only 8 bits, auto adjusting gamma, levels and
a bunch of other unknown auto adjustments.
The twain driver histogram with level adjustments which must
be adjusted for the best scan; yet in Photoshop the levels
still need much adjustment.
All I want it to do is pass the full, promised 12 bits of scanned
data to Photoshop so I can do the manipulation there, instead
of manipulating it twice, perhaps compounding detail loss.
Does anyone know:
* What's really going on?
* a simple twain driver that will give full 12 bits to Photoshop?
* a scanner maillist that might have answers?
Sincerely
Blair Batty,
Simcoe.ON.CA.
P.S. Win 98 crashed ~again~ in the middle of this email, forcing
me to retype it. In the meantime, my Linux box has been running for
almost a year, with no problems...
