[APML] Best way to get prints/processing

Currently I am using 35mm print film for my astro photography and taking it
to the local 1 hour photo shop. Of course, they do not know how to print
the frames correctly and I generally get back over exposed images.

Does anyone have any recommendations to the best way to get the prints back.
As far as I see it, I have several options...

1) I can go back and ask them to reprint the frames that turn out good, but
this can take several trips until they get it right (if they ever do).

2) I could get a photo CD, but this would be a lot of expense for the number
of photos that will actually be worth keeping.

3) I could send the negatives off and have them scanned onto a CD. This
would mean a lot of shipping per scan, since I will not want to wait until I
have enough negatives to make it worth while to send them in (could be
months).

4) I could get a negative scanner.... No I couldn't. Cash is a major issue.
Scratch #4.

5) I could use slides, this would mean taking a risk that the slides would
not be mounted correctly (ie processor cuts images in half). I would still
have the problem of getting prints and getting a digital image for
processing on the PC.

6) I could process my own.... No, once again the startup cost would be more
$ than I can afford.

Yah, I know, I seem a bit picky :-)

Please let me know if you have any ideas. Note: I live in a very small
community (North Wilkesboro, NC, USA) and we do not have any photo shops
other than Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Eckard, and CVS.

Thanks in advance
