Peter makes a line of Newtonian Maksutovs. They use a Mak corrector in
what otherwise appears to be a regular Newtonian scope. Instead of a
silvered spot on the back of the corrector, a 45 degree mirror is employed to
send the light out to the regular side focus. The HD145 has a 145mm aperture
and comes in two focal lengths. F4.5 with an enlarged secondary for
photography or visual and f6 with a small secondary strictly for visual work.
The HD216, as far as I know, only comes in the visual variety and is an f6.
We own a 13cm AP refractor. When I first looked through the HD216, I was
very impressed. A good friend of mine owns a photo version of the HD145 and
it gives excellent results. Anyone who has seen the Hyakutake video has also
looked at results using one of these scopes.
   Clear skies!
