TVC is a means of backlash compensation, usually on the declination axis. The
way it works is that when you apply a correction in a direction opposite of
the last correction, the TVC circuit first drives the drive motor a maximum
speed for a fraction of a second, thereby taking up all the slack and
therefore virtually eliminating the response delay due to backlash. Losmandy
and later-model AP mounts have TVC.
