RE: [APML]: eq mounts

In my humble opinion, the best commercially made equatorial heads are made by
Astro-Physics, in Rockford, Illinois. Their "400" model is great for telephoto or small
refractor work. It is kind of expensive, though, about $2000. (They sell direct.) If that
is too pricey, you might take a look at the Losmandy G-11 or GM8. Those mounts are also
quite popular and are somewhat less expensive. Losmandy is located in Hollywood,
California. Losmandy dealers that I know of are Spectra Astro Systems, in Reseda, CA, and
Pocono Mountain Optics, "somewhere back east".

Astro-Physics and both Losmandy dealers advertise in the major astronomy magazines
(Astronomy and Sky & Telescope). I'm not sure about web sites.

Good luck,

Bob Fera

can anybody point me to seme web-sites of dealers or manufacturers that make
a motorized equatorial mount head (for an existing tripod) or tripod? My
intended application is long exposures with an SLR with medium to large lens
mounted.

thanks.
