[APML]: New picture from La Palma :-)
Hello! :-)
I've just published a new image on the webpage, in the Gallery/DeepSky
section. It's a picture of the region around the Orion Constellation
taken on the last december at the Astrophisic Observatory of Roque De
Los Muchachos, La Palma, Canary Islands, just near the William
Herschel Telescope Facility (Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes). The
image is a preliminary darkroom elaboration, I'm working to improve
the look and I'll release a definitive picture as soon as possible.
The astounding dark sky of the Astrophisic Observatory of Roque De Los
Muchachos gave me and my teammates Andrea Ricciardi, Gianluca Li Causi
and Alessio Garatti, this breathtaking view of the winter Milky Way,
near the Orion Constellation, visible in that places around the
zenith. This image shows the incredible outreach of the interstellar
gases crossing this tormented region of the Galaxy, most of all
ionized hydrogen. Within Orion, it is very difficult to reach the
background black sky, due to the gases wide spreading almost
everywhere. Take a look at the high-res version of the image: there is
an incalculable amount of nebulae and open clusters recorded! This
image comes from the sum of two original pictures, each made on
Kodak GPM 400 unhypered film, in the 6x6 (120) format, with a 45
minutes exposure made through a Zeiss-Jena 90 mm. lens at f/5.6.
Let me know what do you think about this picture!!!
