[APML]: Archives updated for January 1998!
The APML ARCHIVES have been updated for January 1998 and are available
at:
http://www.system.missouri.edu/apml/
There are have been several changes to the archive. We are now using a
mime-compliant program ("MHonArc") to generate the archives. Attached
binary files are no longer a problem for the archives (but are still a
problem for a lot of our users). If your mail program puts things in
HTML format, the archives will use them (if your program generates both
text and html, only the html gets in the archive). All months of the
archive have been converted to this new format.
The most significant change to the archives is to the search engine.
With help from Michael Lindner, there is now an option to get a
"detailed listing". This option prints the relevant sections of the each
matching message with your search-terms highlighted and in context. This
is designed to help you decide if a message has something you should
read. We have also included a way to limit the number of results that
get sent back to your browser. This option still allows you to search
for all matches, and ALL is the default in "summary" mode, but you can
limit it to less if you wish. For the detailed listing, a maximum of
200 results PER YEAR is enforced.
If you think the changes we have made are good.... and you would like to
contribute financially to the upkeep and upgrading of the archives...
email me at the address below and I'll send you the information on how
to do that. Thanks much to those who have supported it already! A
special thanks to Michael Lindner for donating many hours of expensive
programming time!
If you have any comments or questions about, or trouble with, the
archives... please send them to me at the address below and not to the
list.
