RE: [APML] Epson 4870 scanner (Was Wide field Packman nebula)
Alan,
I don't use Silverfast. In fact I never even installed it even though it's a
selling point for the i900 package. I use just the basic scanner controller
software, with all post-processing options turned off, then use Photoshop
and Matlab for processing. That's not to say that the included software
(including Silverfast) isn't any good, just that I try to avoid the overhead
of learning yet another software package if I don't have to.
I'd be interested to know whether I should, in fact, take the trouble to
install and play with Silverfast!
Andy

Hey Andy,
Good review (thanks) and good link. This will be something to keep in
mind if I do change scanners.
For those who do use the Microtek and the 4870, do you use the included
scanner software (Silverfast, I believe), or something else?
IIRC, Tony Hallas had said something about this software many months
ago. The latest version was quite powerful and a vast improvement over
earlier versions and I wonder if that statement can be substantiated by
anyone.
Thanks,
Alan
