Thanks for focusing on this. You have described our intention with meridian
precision.
We are building PixInsight (the current LE version is just a sketch) as an
open and modular system. Users will be able to define their own image
processing procedures and associated interfaces through a dedicated API
written in the ANSI C++ language. The PixInsight application will be a rich
graphical interface to images and processes, but it will do no actual work
by itself: processes will be defined as installable modules.
The whole API will be freely available (C++ source code, examples,
documentation and binaries). The PixInsight application bundled with a
default set of processing modules will be commercial, but it will be cheap
anyway :-)
We are building the whole interface with Qt, a well-known cross-platform GUI
development tool:
http://www.trolltech.com/products/qt/
which means that our intention is to make PixInsight available on Windows,
Linux and Mac OS X platforms. However the initial release will be for
Windows; depending on its success we'll consider porting the application to
Linux/Mac (Qt licenses are expensive, and the porting work isn't the easiest
task for such a complex application).
Regards,
Juan
