RE: [APML] Machholz, Cassiopeia, and Double Cluster



Thanks John and Stuart for the comments on the Machholz shot. Stuart, I
didn't use the sponge tool or anything. I did play with the red histogram,
including the gamma setting in the red channel. That seemed to have the
effect of "punching out" the red nebulae, without making the overall scene
too red. I also had the impression that the red was just a tad too
saturated, so I'm interested to hear someone else is thinking the same way.
After you play with an image long enough, sometimes you lose perspective. I
may fine tune the image slightly and back off on the reds just a bit, but I
wanted to let it rest for a couple of days.

I wonder, did you use the sponge tool on the nebulae? It looks pretty
intense on my screen. Maybe a
bit too much saturation?
