Re: Places to get slide film developed (was RE: [APML] Number ofAPMLmembers?)
There are a few developers around that still develop and make prints
from the C-41 type films, including several wallmarts in the area. But as
far as Slide film, they all send it out. I just finished off my first two
rolls of slide film and had a local shop send it out Thursday and they say
they'll be back by Monday afternoon. I don't mind the short wait like this
but at the time I didn't realize Tonight and Saturday were going to be nice
enough for another photo session(s). Since I'm still learning it helps to
get them back before the next night of photographing so that I can correct
any guiding or vibration problems. Oh Well..
I've been wanting to build a darkroom and do some of my own developing
and printing but I always talk my self out of it for one reason or another.
And that kind of leads me to a question I'll have to ask the group. I'll
toss that up on it's own subject line Saturday afternoon.

Hi Michael,
Welcome to APML! Glad to see another fellow LX90 user trying out film
astrophotography.
I'm in the same boat as you in that no one locally processes slide film.
Surprisingly enough, I started taking my slide film to Wal-Mart and I've
found their quality is consistently excellent. I was told to make special
mention of it by printing "SLIDE FILM" on the envelope when I drop it off.
They send it off and it takes about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks to come back. That's
still quite a while to wait, so my wife and I are putting together a dark
room (slowly). But in the meantime, Wal-Mart works great. They are also
the cheapest around. Definitely best bang for your buck. If you don't have
a local Wal-Mart, then you can buy mailers online from places like B&H Photo
and send them off to be developed that way.
Hope this helps,
Jason

been a member of the group for only a couple months so I can't really
comment how the group is to run but if I may make a statement anyhow...
I just started browsing through this subject and honestly cant see why
the concept would even come up as to changing to a digital forum The way I
understand the formation and reason for this group is being a place for
those in to "film" photography can learn and explore(?). If I want to learn
and explore "digital" photography there are many forums and groups doing
just that but this is the only place I know of that has a large collection
of Film people.
My suggestion would be to keep this as a film group and create a new
group for Digital. Traffic may slow to a crawl here as film becomes less
and less used but at least those of us that wont go to digital "yet" will
have a place to get information from educated/experienced people and wont
have to wade through the digital noise.

P.S. There's only a handful of photoshops left in this area that still
develop film and none do slide film. Stinks that I'm just getting
comfortable taking astrophoto's and there's virtually nobody that can
develop them. :-(
