Re: [APML] OT: memory usage by PhotoShop

Thanks for all the replies.

I found this:
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/12dde.htm

So it seems that PhotoShop can only use 2GB of RAM. If the
memory required exceeds 2GB, PhotoShop will start to swap
hard disks and use hard disks as "virtual memory."

I found a way to increase the memory used by PhotoShop to
more than 2GB. I use about 1GB of RAM as a virtual disk
and let PhotoShop to swap this disk first. So the RAM
actually used by PhotoShop becomes 3GB. Perhaps the access
to this 1GB of virtual disk as virtual memory is not as
fast as the direct access to the 2GB of RAM. But this
should be much faster than swaping hard disks.

I'm using such a configuration to process a large mosaic.
Except for opening and writing files, things are very smooth.

A good lesson for me.
