I really wonder how many people out there still do
this kind of stuff with the temptation of digital
quickness.

Brian,
Some of us still do! I still print many of my tech pan images. Most of
my tech pan images with Schmidt camera or Newtonian are not stacked, a
single tech pan negative is often good enough to stand on it's own without
digital jiggery pokery. (but not all!) They make great prints up to the
largest trays I have which handle 16" x 20". Deep, H-alpha filtered
telephoto shots make great prints and still have tiny stars on enlargements
this big, and they only cost about $6 CDN each if you print several at once.
Last time I checked this was cheaper than printing a digital file and more
permanent. As you already process your own film, you will probably find
printing a fairly easy skill to pick up. The cost of entry has never been
lower.....
