I suppose my title was a little misleading due to the fact the rings
will be holding my Pentax 67 lenses. I was concerned the tips would
ruin the focus ring. I'll be doing some experimenting over the next
several weeks to see if I have any flexure problems. My main
concern now is determining how much to tighten the screws. There's
probably a fine line between too little (i.e., flexure) and too much
(i.e., ruining the lens). I'll probably end up grinding the tips
down to lessen the potential of flexure. Nothing's worse then
spending all night taking astrophotos and getting them back with a
frame full of star drift.

Sounds like you've got it figured out.
I think you can hand tighten the three screws so they are very snug, without
damaging the camera lens barrels. I wouldn't use any "mechanical advantage
tools" like pliers, etc.

While we never like to marr or damage our equipment, it is meant to be used
and if this means a scuff or sctratch, it goes with the territory.
