Agreed. The *only* time I have had flexure problems is when using a
guidescope. If you upgrade from eyeball to an ST4 down the road, it will
also work nicely on a Lumicon Newtonian/Refractor OAG. Lumicon's 3x
diagonal/barlow combo with a 12mm eyepiece works just fine. Guidestars won't
be very bright with a 78mm aperture, but the shorter focal length you are
using should give a good sized chunk of sky to find one.

I'd definately go the OAG. One less source for Murphy's law to get you. And
He will get you pretty often with differential flexure using a guidescope.

After doing my research for rings, plate, and guidescope rings to set up for
guided prime focus AP, I read the post a few days ago by Alan and was
wondering if I would be better off using an OAG instead of a guidescope?  I
have a little SV78S Achromat that weighs 7.5 lbs., riding on a GM-8.  I
already have a little 60mm scope for the guidescope, which doesn't weigh
very much.  I estimated that the monster rings for the SV, DUP plate, and
guidescope rings would add about 7-8 lbs.  I don't think this is too much
for the GM-8, but is the guidescope set-up better for prime focus or is the
OAG better?  I will be guiding manually.  To put both set-ups together is
about the same price ($300.00), so the cost is not a factor.  Thanks for any
insight or advice anyone can give me on this.
