It's not any darker, but it's frequently more transparent in Arizona
because the air is dry and doesn't have the aerosols and pollution that you
get on the east coast, as well as outgassing from trees (that's why they
call them the Smokey Mountains). The other big advantage in Arizona is you
can get up in altitude, such as on Massai Point.
Personally, I think it's definitely worth the trip to Arizona.
