RE: [APML] Barn Door Fun

Eric,
Very good work. It looks to me like you did capture Barnard's Loop in the
Orion image. My recommendation is to spend your money on a good GEM. Get the
very best you can afford and then some. I suspect others will chime in here
and you will get plenty of advice on which mount to pursue. Good luck in
your search!

Subject: [APML] Barn Door Fun

Hi everybody,

It's been a cold and snowy winter, but I finally managed to fill up a roll
of Provia 400F with some nighttime shots using my OM-1 from the barn door
mount.

These shots were all taken at f/2.8, ranging from 3 to 5 minutes exposure
times. I'm pretty happy with my first roll of the Provia, since I get
results similar to E200, but at twice the speed; I can get decent brightness
with just
3 minutes and then stack the images. The one I'm proudest of is the fourth
link down - I put my trusty 50mm Zuiko away and used a 130mm telephoto just
for fun.

I think it's safe to say that I've graduated from the barn door mount. Any
advice on a next step that won't break the bank? I've already found all the
Messiers with my little ETX-70, so I'm considering maybe a new refractor
with just a bit more arpeture on an equatorial mount good enough for
piggyback work, but probably not prime focus... yet.

Clear Skies and Round Stars!
