RE: [APML] Tech-Pan Questions

Hey Gary,
I have to agree with Brian on this on. It is very easy, you just need
to buy a few pieces of inexpensive equipment, a few chemicals and learn
a couple basic skills.

I did all this stuff 25+ years ago when I was a teen. When I decided to
get back into developing my own film I started with a roll of out-dated
film I bought for a dollar to practice loading the reel which is
probably the most difficult thing to master. I started by sitting in my
easy chair and watching what I was doing. Next I tried it a few times
with my eyes closed and finally tried in inside the changing bag. For a
first run just go to Wal-Mart, get some T-Max 400 and shoot some
daylight stuff. This way you can test all your new found skills without
worrying about an expensive roll of hypered TP and a long night of
guiding. You might even find you like B&W as a daytime medium like I
did.

Hey Gary,

The hardest thing about developing your own pics in
the begining is getting over the fear of attempting
it...its not that hard and is an art not many seem to
do anymore.
Its just like making soup!<g>
Actually the hardest thing is getting the film on the
reel but that can be pracitced with a bunk roll of
film in daylight by closing your eyes.
Once you do get the hang of developing, and not just
astrophotography stuff, you will have a new respect
for film photography...to me, i think its essential
for someone that shows a good interest in photography
to go out and do.
Its very rewarding and fun once you get the results
and hang of things.

Goto my website and look at the stuff Ive been doing
under my B+W image links towards the bottom of the
page.

Have at'r
Brian
