'Hypo' is part of the fixer;
'Hypersensitize' is, equivalently, what we do with forming gas, cold camera,
preflashing, ....

'Hyposensitize' I've never heard, at least in terms of a worthwhile
photographic technique.

Perhaps the 'instructor' needs some instruction!

My girlfriend brought the word hypersensitize up in a
darkroom class yesterday and the teacher laughed at
her saying it was hyposensitizing.
Needless to say it was her first day and she felt
stupid.
My being defensive over my girlfriend of just about
anything, I want to ring his neck.

So what is it, hyper or hypo?
I looked up the word hypo and it means to desensitize
something, which Im assuming hyper means to sensitize.

Hypo also happens to be another name for sodium
thiosulphate, which here is the meaning for that:

sodium thiosulphate
noun;  a white soluble substance used, in the
pentahydrate form, in photography as a fixer to
dissolve unchanged silver halides and also to remove
excess chlorine from chlorinated water. Formula:
Na2S2O3

Bla whatever...fixer.

This is the same guy who told me at some point sensia
was the same film as provia except it was aged
differantly for the mass consumer.
