[APML] SCT guidescopes - can they be recommended?

I have a 4" Meade SCT and it is a lightweight and attractive
little beast. It has a single 1/4x20 bored plate for
mounting on a tripod (I guess) and I figure it would sit
inside a pair of rings nicely or one ring and a camera mount
on Losmandy rails. So, my question is this, with a 1000mm
focal length and weighing next to nothing, why do I never
see anyone say they use this kind of scope as a guidescope?
The central obstruction seems a small price to pay to have a
102mm guidescope vs the 70 or 80mm, shorter f/l scopes most
people use.

Anyway, the question stems from me joining the ranks of G-11
owners and I'm retooling my rig. Happen to have this little
scope and am wondering what it's role will be in my imaging
plans.

Thanks!
Stuart Heggie
