Indeed! In my undergrad days I borrowed a radiation detector from one of
the physics labs in the sub-basement of UofT to see if my next door
neighbour (local x-ray clinic) was killing me. Turns out I was getting a
fraction of the radiation that the people in the lab were getting from all
the cement surrounding them!
