Hi Doug,
I am working with an EQ6 with relatively short focal lenght OTA
(Newton 800mm f/4) - see link below (there are some shots in my deep sky
gallery)
I also have heard that some of the EQ6 have a huge PE, of course this
"low budget" mount can not be compared to e.g. a G11.
In Germany there are some modifications available, one of them is a
steering called "Boxdorfer" which enables owners to use PEC and an
autoguider with the EQ6.
I do not think the above would solve the problem if the gears are
not precise and if we are talking about a mechanical problem.
I am not an expert, I just through in my opinion, maybe some more
expirienced folks will be able to provide you with more detailed comments.
