[APML] Astrophotography with the Synta EQ6 Mount
Gang,
I *think* I just got bad news.
My telescope is a 10 inch newt atop a Synta EQ6
mount purchased from Orion. (The mount has the Orion
label on it, but it's an EQ6)
I've been hearing some very scary things like "this
mount is absolutely unacceptable for photographing
DSO's".
Apparently a number of these mounts have serious PE
in their drive chain. (Isn't PE simply a function of
the roundness of the gears?) I've also heard a rumor
that the Orion version of these mounts tend to have
less PE.
Does anyone here have any experience doing long
exposure photography with the EQ6 mount? Is there
anything that can be done to correct the PE? Will
autoguiding with an ST-4 help? If this mount won't
work, I appear to be, as they say, "screwed".
Thanks in advance.
