Dale,

Gene and some others may want to correct this, but I think that's 
essentially right - the Newt typically has the smallest central obstruction 
of any reflector, and only one curved surface which is easy to figure to 
high accuracy (unlike an RC).  The only other surface is flat which is 
easiest of all to figure to high accuracy.  Collimation is critical in any 
reflecting telescope but it is less critical in the case of a Newt than an 
RC.  Bobby can talk about the potential stepladder problem (if it is a 
problem).
