Re: [APML] "New" image - from 12 years ago

Hi John -
Good to see an old timer image! Those were the good old days. Doing
astrophotography like a real man. Just your eyeball, drive corrector paddle
and some voodoo brewed film....... <g>

Maybe I can find one of my old Tech Pan shots from the 80's and bring it
back to life... now you got me started..... gotta go dig around.....

Well, this was a long time coming. I took this image back on Sept 21
1990 but it was a bit thin on the negative, so I filed the image away. For
the last few months I have been scanning all my old negatives when I came
across this one, that I had forgotten all about. Back when I took the image,
few had heard of CCD's, fewer actually owned a computer, fewer still had an
auto-guider and the G-11 was about to burst on to the market. Through the
magic of curves and levels, my manually guided 2 hour exposure sees the
light!
We have seen many shot's of the central triangle of the Veil, but not
very often at 1200mm on tech pan. I am quite pleased with the fine detail on
the image, thanks to my *ahem* superb manual guiding. :-) I must have been
mainlining coffee that night. These days I think the chances of me pulling
off a 2 hour guided shot are pretty much nil. Besides, the list is pretty
quiet today.....
