Re: Supra Status- was ([APML]_Rosette_Nebula_and_SNR_with_Schnmidt)

Alan, Nicola and all,

I hope Alan gets a response from Kodak. My contact a month ago indicated
that they were in the midst of converting the 400 films to the new "improved
short red sensitivity". He didn't give me a time table when it would be
completed.

The Kodak data sheets on their web site haven't changed for several months.
They are:

Supra 400 E-2519 dated Oct 2002
Royal Supra 200 & 400 E-4096 dated June 2002
Royal Gold 200 E-7006 dated Mar 2002 (the "New" RG200)

You can find these files to view or download pdf files from the Kodak search
at
http://www.kodak.com/cgi-bin/webSearchForm.cgi

The Spectral Sensitivity Curves show the reduced red response for RG200 and
Royal Supra 400. The interesting thing about these is that the curves for
Royal Supra 200 and new Royal Gold 200 are IDENTICAL. This may mean that
the change to Royal Supra is really a repackage of Royal Gold.

The new Royal Gold 200 is actually a very good film for astrophotography
once it is fully hypered. All reports so far on new Royal Gold 400 indicate
it is terrible for astrophotography (I haven't tested this yet).

Buy Supra 400, not Royal Supra while it is still available in the USA. It
looks like it is gone in Canada and Europe. Stock up if you can find it.
It will last years past expiration if you keep it cold, either refrigerated
or frozen.
