Subject: Re: [APML] New Film Test
Hello,
Before I go over to the
"dark side" I am doing one more very thorough film test of all the current
mostly negative films from Kodak, Konica, and Fuji. I have a test bench set up
in my garage with a ND 4.0 filter over my lens with a grayscale/color chart
target and multi-spectrum illumination to make sure that all the wavelengths
are there for the film. Part of my quest was to see if anything out there
beats the RG200 and what is the correct hypering of this film? I tested Supra
400 not hypered (terrible!) and then hypered it for three hours with a half
hour vacuum with heat... a marked improvement, it really straightened out the
color. I need to know what fellow APML'ers are hypering this film
at.
It does not record
shadow detail like the RG200... ie, the hypered RG200 is faster in the
shadows... it will pick up more faint detail... also, RG200 with no hypering
is terrible. I have found that it works best in my set-up with 1/2 hour of
vacuum under heat and then 2 hours of hypering @ 50 C. It will have
a SLIGHT bluish cast, refuting what I said earlier about the rebate
color. This film does nothing until it hits a certain hyper point, then it
begins a very slow decline as the film is over-hypered and receptor sites
become hyper fogged. You are safer to over-hyper rather than under hyper this
film because until it hits the correct hyper point it does
nothing.
More results as
they come in....
