RE: [APML] sprintscan question
I just purchased the Epson Perfection 2450 Photo scanner. It's a flatbed
with builtin lamp for transparency scans. Hardware resolution is 2400x4800
ppi. It has an advertised density range of 3.3, which I haven't yet tested.
Filmholder sizes support 35mm filmstrips, 6x6 cm, 4x5 inch, and slides; the
transparency lamp are is 4x9 inches. (I'm preparing to try making my own
filmholders for scanning some OLD 127 size negatives and negs from a 16mm
Minolta pocket camera I used back in the '60s
So far, I'm quite satisfied for a $400 scanner, coming from an HP 5100
flatbed and a HP S-10 film scanner. My only complaint (other than not
having an adjustable "universal" film holder) is that, at higher resolution,
its slower than I like. But maybe thats the nature of ~60MB files from BW
6x6 negatives (downloading 16-bit greyscales).
I'll post some samples on my website over the next couple of days.

Mike,
There used to be just one 35mm scanner model from Polaroid called
'Sprintscan'. Later, when they intrdouced a higher end version called
the Sprintscan Plus, they renamed the original to Sprintscan ES. Along
with that they intrdouced a slightly lower end version called the
Sprintscan LE.
I have the Sprintscan Plus and it is an excellent scanner. Much better
than my old HP Photosmart, IMO. The Sprintscan ES version is also a
very good scanner from what I've seen and heard (see the APML scanner
tests and archives for more on that). I don't know much about the LE
version. It is the cheapest of the three and it lacks something, but I
don't
recall what.
Go for the Plus or ES as they are proven models.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [APML] sprintscan question
Hi List,
I'm looking into purchasing my first negative scanner and doing away with
the
dreaded flatbed.
Im looking at a Polaroid sprintscan 35 and a 35 le
These are going on ebay anywhere from $200 to $350 and thats about the
limit I will
have to spend on one.
I know alot of you use the sprintscan's. Would either one do a good job
for the
money on astro negs with vuescan which I already have ? Of course anything
has to be
better than a flatbed.
Thanks in advance
