The Canon FD 200mm f2.8 is thought to be one of the sharpest
lenses that Canon made in the FD series. It should make a great astro
lens. The $200.00 price seems quite good as well. I have a 200mm
Soligor that I use with my Canons and while it is not in the same leauge as the
Canon FD f2.8 offering I like the lens very much for astrophotography. It
takes a fairly wide field shot but stands up to cropping well depending on the
object. I refer you to a couple of shots on my site.

haze. I was testing the sky conditions at some property that I had just
bought.

I’m using a Canon
AE-1 and AE-1P. I know that the battery requirement to keep the shutter open
makes that camera less desirable, however it does take great pictures and I
own them already. I think I have the battery problem taken care of with some
help from a few other APML members. According to Jerry L, Canon made some of
the finest lenses in the FD series for their manual focus line. They can be
pricey as well. The one I’m looking at is $200.
I’m looking at buying a used 200mm
f2.8 lens for my 35mm camera and want some

Has anyone used this length lens
for astrophotography? If so how did it perform?
Michael Covington’s book gives
the field of view for 200mm as 6.87 x 10.3
degrees.
If you have a link to see an
example of the actual field of view I would appreciate that very
much.
