Re: [APML] Film for Comet Ikeya-Zhang

Chris,

I have two recommendations based on likely exposure time. When I was
photographing Hale-Bopp I duplicated all exposures with two films: Fuji
SuperG 800 and Kodak PJM-2.

With exposures of less than about 1 minute the Fuji was consistently
superior. You can see an example here:

This particular film is not available anymore, however my tests with the
NHG-II 800 show that it should record in a very similar way. It has
excellent broadband recording characteristics (i.e. good for comets) though
don't expect it to record much in the way of Ha emission.

With exposures of more than about 1 minute the Kodak PJM-2 was consistently
superior. You can see an example here:

This film is also discontinued, though its direct equivalent is PJ400 (if
you have any of that left) or LE400. The PJM-2 was hypered though I don't
think that made much difference to this particular result (might have
enhanced the blue somewhat)

Hope it goes well,
--Philip
